Review of the new sanyo dual Xacti 720p Hd Vpc-Wh1 Camcorder
With a conventional digital camera or camcorder, many users are understandably reluctant to film or shoot in the rain or other wet environments, fearing water damage to the camera. The Sanyo Xacti VPC-WH1 and Sanyo Xacti VPC-CA9 digital camcorders, however, have earned the highest possible IEC 60529 waterproof rating - IPX8 - allowing high definition 1280 x 720 30fps footage to be captured without worrying about the effects of water or snow. The Sanyo camcorder is operable down to a water depth of up to 1.5 meters (5 feet), while the Sanyo Xacti WH1 is submersible down to an astounding 3 meters (10 feet).

The main controls are on the rear of the camera and the buttons for the most part are nice and big. One of the first things that I did was to go into the menus to see what I could setup. Here I could set up whether I wanted manual control and exposure, and whether I wanted some auto functions such as aperture or shutter priority. Given that a camera such as this is usually a pain to use full manually it was nice to see that I had options. Manual control is via an on screen adjustment using the control joy pad on the back of the camera.
The camera is very small. Certainly small enough to put into a pocket when not in use. This is a major plus for people who like to travel a lot, considering how unpredictable the conditions can be out underwater.There is no option for a screw in filter. The lens is housed behind a protective cover, which annoyingly has no lens cap so you need to be ultra careful not to scratch it when you dump it into your bag or pocket etc.

I need a tripod for my Sanyo Xacti VPC-FH1A camcorder?
Where can I get one online for a reasonable price?
I recommend looking at the big box electronic stores AND a camera specific store.
There are a lot of things to think about.
What kind of stability you need. The more you expect to use the telephoto part of the zoom, the more stability you need.
How much portability do you need. Will you be shooting things where you set up and leave it or be shifting between locations a lot.
Will there be things handy that you can set a "table top" tripod on things instead of going all the way to the ground. Table tops are light but very prone to jiggle if you touch the camera to turn it or adjust the zoom/focus
If you want really light and easy to move, consider a monopod. Your body becomes two legs of the tripod but you need to practice to get good stability and to pan shots. Obviously this is not a choice if you want to set the tripod and leave it alone for longer periods of time. Good for sporting events where you need to follow action all the time, not good for a graduation ceremony where much of it will be locked into position.
My experience is that "inexpensive" tripods are inexpensive for a reason. I love my Bogen (aka Manfroto) tripod with video head. You can mix and match the bases and heads to get what you need. I bought the bottom of the line for each and it was such a step up over a "good" tripod I bought for still pictures. Much more solid than the tripod that cost almost as much and easier to adjust.
A video head will not have as many adjustments as a still head. Usually just tilt (up down) and rotate. They should move smoothly at all adjustments for the drag on them. If they don't move smoothly (such as need a little extra oomph to get it started) any adjustments you make will look jerky. Try out the ones you find with a light touch of a couple fingers on the arm.
The only thing I missed is that I sometimes shoot in places where people may be standing in front of me and it would really help to have another 6" to a foot of height more than I do on it.
